The RCY Calendar of Events for 2015 was released last week, and there are rather substantial changes with respect to certain events. We’ll give you first hand insights, on both current and new events. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
Note: Events are listed in chronological order
1) Gold Modular Workshops (7th February, 15th August, 31st October 2015)
A new subject we’re introducing is Disaster Management (DM) at the Gold level. Learn more about the roles of SRC (both locally and internationally) and get a preview of the role of a psychosocial worker during a disaster. And if you’re attending the DM UIP in November, this is the final step in order to be an expert in this subject.
2) SRC International Bazaar (15th March 2015)
After a hiatus this year (for this biennial charity event), the SRC International Bazaar is back next year. Sign up to manage stalls or volunteer for performances when the details are out!
3) RCY First Aid Competition 2015 (4th April 2015)
To keep our skills current and at our fingertips, the annual First Aid Competition will involve the Links, Cadets and Chapters. There’s some surprises which we can’t quite reveal yet, so keep a lookout for the letter of participation later this year (projected)!
4) RCY Awards and Recognition Day (18th April 2015)
The RCY Awards & Promotion Ceremony will be held in conjunction with the World Red Cross Day (WRCD) Celebrations cum Enrolment cum Recognition Day (ECRD). It will be renamed as the RCY Awards & Recognition Day. It’s a day where we recognise the best in RCY, and thank our graduating links and cadets for their services to RCY. What better way to celebrate WRCD than to welcome new members into our RCY family?
5) RCY Linkamania 2015 – (30th – 31st May 2015)
Linkamania is back again next year as a camp, where our Links will be learning through fun and games. There will also be a Community Outreach Project (dubbed Project Happy), which will involve cadets, and is one of the SG50 Fringe Activities. It’s also the 10th Anniversary of Linkamania, so expect something BIG!
6) SEA Games 2015 FAD (31st May – 16th June 2015)
Other than participating in First Aid Duties (FAD) during NDP or other SRC FADs, you can choose to take part in the SEA Games 2015 FAD too. Aside from providing First Aid to the many spectators and competitors there, you get to watch some of the action too! Since the SEA Games 2015 is part of the core SG50 Events, we’ll definitely need all the help we can get. Interested? Get in touch with VYD via your Teacher-Officer soon! Training commences this November.
7) Youth Celebrate! 2015 (26th July 2015)
Youth Celebrate! 2015 is an event that rallies children and youth to come together and celebrate the achievements of young Singaporeans in different areas such as the arts, sports and uniformed groups. Key highlights include the National School Games Track and Field events, a National School Games football match, a novelty football game pitting school children against national football players, a mass display of school flags, a creative drill performance by the uniformed groups (that’s where we come in!), and a combined display band showcase. Stories about the achievements of Singapore’s youth over the past 50 years and their aspirations for the future will also be shared. Do refer to the Calendar of Events for training dates.
8) RCY Sports & Wellness Day (5th September 2015)
The annual Current Affairs Competition (CAC) will be replaced by the RCY Sports & Wellness Day (for 2015 at least, but more on this will be explained on 9th Jan 2015), a fun-filled event through Sports for our RCY Links & Cadets to participate in. It’s time to stop hiding from those NAPFA tests and start preparing! And before you ask, yes, this is a competition based event.
9) RCY Exploring Humanitarian Law Week (?)
You got that right. Currently, Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) is covered only during the RCK Gold Syllabus. With EHL Week, we hope to raise more awareness on its importance, especially to our own youths.
10) RCY Overseas Humanitarian Project 2015 (June/September/November 2015 – Projected)
Missed out on the chance to participate in this year’s Overseas Humanitarian Project (OHP) to The Philippines? There’ll be another one next year. We’ll announce more details on the OHP (like the date and venue) once we’ve firmed it up.
There aren’t much changes to other staple events like Unit Leaders’ Programme (ULP), Volunteer Instructors’ Programme (VIP) and Red Cross Youth Challenge (RCYC). More details on the other events will be shared during the Youth Officers Sharing Session (YOSS) on 9th January 2015. Have queries? Hit us on the chatbox!
